The Founder, Simone Vespucci
Great uncle of Amerigo Vespucci, born around 1430 in a house
on Borgo Ognissanti and leaving no heirs (the person with the white
beret in the fresco).
From this house, Vespucci built a hospital for the people
of the quarter and the city, retiring to one of its wings and
providing for the care and administration of the hospital together
with his wife.
Upon his death on July 14, 1400, he left all of his property
to the people of the quarter so that the house would always remain
a hospital.
